#Away we go.
Par Dale Coooper
I wish, but I have never been to the Guggenheim museum in NY. Neither at the foot of the statue of liberty or iin its head. Didn't see the Bronx, not more than a show in Broadway. Dunno anything about the upper east side, and I never had a burger'n'fries in Brooklyn. I won't even talk about Queens.
I never drove a convertible in Florida, neither had a keylime pie in Key Largo. Never saw a life saver in a red swimsuit in Miami, because I've never actually been on the beach in Miami.
I saw the white house in Washington though, and ate in Jacky chan's restaurant. great scalops, but that's about all my memories from DC.
That's for the east coast. oh wait, for the west coast too. Boston, Louisiane, Chicago, Texas, Seattle, Salt Lake, still on the list. Can't wait for the national parks and California. Even the idea of getting married seems funnier in Vegas.
South america never heard about me. Nor South Africa.
I wish I'll see the Kheops pyramid once, and its best friend the Sphynx. I want to get lost in Cairo, and hate it because it stinks and I feel dirty.
If I ever go back to Istambul, which I hope I will, I want to go on the asian part of the city. Cross the bridge from Europe to Asia. Go on top of Aya Sofia after a virile massage from one of those fat hairy turkish in a steam bath. Been there 3 times already, and I can't get enough.
they say Anatolia is a must see in Turkey. Maybe later.
Cuba seems nice too. Never too late to get dancing lessons and get used to ron, and cure my high allergy to anything salsa-ish (not related, but necessary : bitch !). And wearing a real Panama to the sound of the buena vista social club ! Oh, and go to Rio see if bossa is anything else than the girl from Ipanema. wouldn't hurt...
Been there, done that. Australia, seen 3% of it. Not even a snake, a big spider or a real ornythorinque. I swear that if I ever see one there when I visit the northern territories, I'll learn how to spell it.
And Sydney, and Ayer's rock, and all the other fantasy images about ozzie in my head, left in a corner. More bush, more outback, other people...
Romania, where the most amazing driving road is. I wanna try 100 different sarmale, and sleep in a chalet in the transylvanian mountains. And why not make love in there at the sound of howling wolves (or was it an owl ? tell me it was an owl…).
Go east : Russia, Mongolia, Tibet (rooftop of the world, what a wonderful and inspiring thought to be walking on it…), Nepal India, Pakistan, China of course ! Korea, New Guinea, New Zealand…
And the Islands ! Iceland, Indonesia, Mayotte, Corsica, Seychelles, Guadeloupe, greek islands !
I almost forgot Greece ! Baklava for breakfast looking at the sun rise on Santorin's blue and white landscape. Exhilarating. 30 something and never been to Greece ? what's wrong with me ?
Many people say I've seen and done a lot. But to me I ain't seen nothing. I've been to 2 of my 3 kid's dream destinations, and will leave to the third one in two days. But besides child dreams, there are many other lists in my cranium to fill the rest of my life with surprises and wonders for my eyes, clothes penetrating smells, totally new tastes on my tongue. Many other dreams to go.
They say it's a small world. I say this world is way too big for our oh so short lifetime. If every people are different, every hectare of this earth has something new for me. Because I was a lazy history and geography student when I was going to school, I want to learn it out off the books. Books are not enough. Go there. Anywhere. Anytime. See by myself.
I always have this feeling that I dry up like a forgotten plant or a rotten piece of meat when I don't flee away for several months.
So yes, When I step the airport door on tuesday, it'll be the same. When I put my luggage on the scale, it'll be the same. when I show my passport to the non smiling border officer, it'll be the same. when i wait for the boarding announcement, it'll be the same, and boring.
But then the plane will fly. And from that moment, it will be a total new world.
Like never before.
